Transatlantic Ties

On Saturday 11 June the Barry Lane Chairman, and Alan Bernhem-Parter Association Director, represented the Association at the Transatlantic Ties Symposium held at the University of Chichester. This event was the culmination of a three year project funded by the Mellon Foundation to research and develop ties between West Sussex and the USA. This project was a result of the events leading to the discoveries surrounding the Sussex Declaration which resulted in the advent of the Transatlantic Ties Project which aimed to produce an electronic teaching resources, an outreach programme and a website for teachers and researchers.

The Association was a partner in this project along with West Sussex County Council, Mellon Foundation, University of Chichester, University of Sussex and The West Sussex Record Office. Our part in this project centred mainly on our involvement in both the Seven Years War and the American War of Independence and we provided relevant items from the periods from the Regimental Collection for 3D imaging within a Regimental section of the website and for use in the teaching materials. This website can be viewed at www.transatlantic-ties.org.uk and we hope to have a link to it shortly on our website.

It was a challenging project made more difficult as a result of the pandemic and having to come up with different ways of working. But it was a huge pleasure and honour to have been asked to be a partner in this venture and look forward to working in the future with Wendy and her team.
