Eastbourne Branch to the Rescue

With 24 hours to go before an open air concert and Beating Retreat at Herstmonceux Castle on Sunday 10 July 2022, the Association got a desperate call from The Army Benevolent Fund who were organisers of the event. They had been let down by the firm that were to oversee the car parking for the event and could we help. After some quick calls to members of the Eastbourne Branch, five members gallantly stepped into the breech and did a sterling job at such short notice. It elicited a vote of thanks from the organisers for such a wonderful job for a call with a flash to bang time of zero. The upside was that the volunteers were treated to a wonderful show by the Band of the PWRR, who we all knew from St George’s Day, and the Pipes and Drums of The London Scottish Regiment. This was performed on a wonderfully balmy Summers evening on the forecourt of the castle which provides a stunning backdrop. To cap it all the Sun was just setting behind the trees as Sunset was played and the Union Flag lowered on the battlements. The efficiency of the team ensured all cars were clear within 20 minutes of the march off. Thanks go to all those who stepped up to the plate to make this event run smoothly.
