Chichester and District Branch were fortunate enough to have branch member, Lt. Col Mike Fielder, take time off work to visit and give a presentation to the branch on his role as Commandant of the Military Correction and Training Facility, Colchester. The presentation took an historical route from 1521, when the conduct of English soldiers were regulated by the Court of the High Constable and Earl Marshall, which later become the ‘Court of the Marshall’, and then in 1666 with the creation of the ‘Courts-martial’. Mike took this theme up to the present day with his work, which mainly, and where appropriate, is focussed on rehabilitation of those under detention rather than punishment. A documentary charting the day-to-day activities of Mike’s team at MCTC has been recently aired on My 5 called Court Martial Soldiers Behind Bars.
