Mr Bahu, Mayor of Priez, France, on 10 September 2022 at the Royal Sussex Regiment monument.

Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for your presence. We learned of the passing of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, at her residence in Balmoral, on Thursday evening. The Queen loved France, whose language she spoke fluently. She has been part of our lives as she reigned for 70 years. We have followed all the events of her public and private life.  At a very young age, she took part in the Second World War. Always very elegant, she wore colourful outfits that suited her perfectly.

It is with a deep emotion that we are sending our most sincere condolences to the English people and their families. We will now observe a minute of silence.

The Berrecloth family is with us today, on September 10th, to gather and remember around this monument dedicated to the memory of these young soldiers of the Royal Sussex Regiment who fell at Priez on September 10th, 1914. The first exchanges began in 2012, and since that time, we have always maintained relations with our English friends. There were very beautiful ceremonies organized, unforgettable moments. At the beginning of each year, you do not fail to send us a note.
