A public Thank You

Spotted on the gates of the West Street War Memorial, Chichester, this morning was this note, which just had to be published here, on Armistice Day. This memorial in West Street has seen some rough times, hidden away as it is, adjacent to the ‘old’ St. Peter The Great Church. Owing to its location it became neglected and overgrown when the church became a pub, and soon became overlooked by most folk who passed it by. In recent years though kindness has been shown by local people, particularly the President of the Chichester Branch, Mr. John White, who with the help of his son Kevin cleared much of the undergrowth and rubbish, resulting in a Memorial that one can now see from the street. But it is the adornment of the handmade poppies by the children of these two local schools that have provided such a moving tribute to those men for which this memorial stands. You have indeed remembered them.
