THE LIFE OF A PIONEER AND ENGINEER ON THE WESTERN FRONT 1914-1919)
Volume 3 of THE COLOURFUL LIFE OF AN ENGINEER
Memoirs of Harry Chickall Lott MC

A personal story of the humour, horror, and routine of the daily life of an officer and his men in the trenches and billets near the front line in World War I. The main events of the War in France are summarised, including the battles of the Somme and Passchendaele where Harry was wounded, making this a very readable history of the conflict of just over 100 years ago.

Harry left his engineering career in Canada to join up in England and went to France in 1915 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Sussex (Pioneer) Regiment. Mentioned in Despatches three times and awarded the Military Cross in 1917, he was promoted to Major in the Royal Engineers where he commanded No.5 Army Tramway Company. After the Armistice in 1918 Harry caught Spanish Flu’ and returned to Loos for the battlefield clearance in 1919 before being transferred to the British Army in Mesopotamia.

The book is available through Waterstones and Amazon books websites at a cost of £10.99
