With Sympathy

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David Wadey, who’s 103rd birthday it was earlier this year. David was called up and joined The Royal Sussex Regiment in July 1939, and rose to the rank of Sergeant before embarking for France with the 4th Battalion on the 8th April 1940. David served with the 4th Batt. throughout France and Belgium 1940 from Escaut to Caestre and Mont-de-Cats, arriving at Bray Dunes and escaping with the rest of the BEF from the Dunkirk Mole. In late April 1942 David was on a troopship to North Africa with the battalion, and saw action once more as a Desert Rat at El Alamein, after which he was transferred to The Royal Engineers owing to his pre-war experience as a Technical Assistant in the District Surveyors Department of Southwick Urban Council.

The Association extends its sincere condolences to David’s family; may he rest in peace.
